Mark Halley
Having spent his entire life around horses and stock, Mark is an excellent horseman, experienced packer, and knowledgeable instructor with 25 years of backcountry experience in the Wallowa Mountains and Hells Canyon region of Northeastern Oregon.
As an Oregon native, Mark Halley is a walking encyclopedia of local knowledge regarding history, flora and fauna, the Eagle Cap Wilderness, and Hells Canyon. Mark assists with many areas of instruction.

With a combined 68 years of experience as professional guides and packers in the rugged Pacific Northwest, your instructors will provide knowledgeable, current, and pertinent instruction for your daily hands-on experience. You will learn all the applicable and desired skills necessary to become a superior professional guide and packer.

Jeff Artley
Upon graduating from a Montana guide school in 1991, Jeff immediately went to work for an outfitter in the Bitterroot Valley. His extensive experience since then includes work in numerous wilderness and forest service areas and in multiple states including Montana, Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
In addition to his many years and experience acquired as a packer and guide, Jeff is also an accomplished horseman, farrier, and taxidermist, having attended school for each of these professions throughout the years. His fine carpenter, mechanic, and jack-of-all-trades skills round out his excellent qualifications.
Sara Artley
Born and raised in the Flathead Valley of Montana, Sara spent her growing up years on the back of a horse, in the backcountry, and on a ranch. Much of the hands-on training for this part of your curriculum will be taught by Sara. She will also assist with the written curriculum, testing, and tracking of scores.
